Alleged Drunk Driver Cause Rt. 93 Shutdown
A man from Maine that police believe was Operating Under the Influence was summons to court after causing an accident that closed Route 93 in both directions. The major highway linking Boston to the North Shore was closed for about twenty minutes during the morning commute. The driver is alleged to have had an open container of alcohol in the car as well as being under the influence at the time of the accident. The man was issued a summons and taken to the hospital.
Having an open bottle of alcohol in the car is something that never really plays well when there is an OUI trial. Here where the defendant was taken to the hospital the medical records will show whether the man really was under the influence. In this case the Commonwealth will be able to summons the medical records of the day of the accidents. If they are good then it was a rush to judgement by the Massachusetts State Police, if they are bad the man should consider a plea.
