According to the Boston Globe,Gustavo Pina, 29 of Saugus was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on Thursday on 22 counts of unemployment fraud. Mr. Pina allegedly collected more than $13,000 in jobless benefits while working. According to Prosecutors Pina was working full time at a mortgage company while collecting the benefits from August 2007 to January 2008. He earned $24,000 on the job during that period. The case against Mr. Pina is being prosecuted by the Massachusetts Attorney General's Ofiice.

According to the Boston Herald a 63 year old grandmother was charged with her third offense OUI in Marblehead on Friday. Sharon A. Faulkner was allegedly drunk when she got into an accident while she was driving her 9 year old grandson to school. According to the Herald, Marblehead police responded to the report on an car striking an tree. When they arrived they could not find anyone at the scene. Later, school officials reported that Faulkner was involved in the accident. Faulkner failed a series of field sobriety test and blew a .14 on the breathalyzer. This was her third offense for OUI.

The Herald did not report that Ms. Faulkner was charged with OUI Child Endangerment. That is another serious charge that carries with a mandatory one year license loss and a mandatory minimum jail sentence. If convicted of a third offense OUI the 63 year old grandmother would have to serve 150 days in jail. It is a mandatory sentence.

Lorraine Henderson the former regional director for the Department of Homeland Security is set to go to trial in US District Court in Boston. Ms. Henderson was arrested in January 2008 on charges that she knowingly employed illegal aliens at her house. Ms. Henderson faces a possibility of up to 10 years if convicted.
I can only speculate that because Ms. Henderson was entrusted with the job of keeping illegal aliens out the country and she had three working for her a deal is unlikely.

The Suffolk County District Attorney dropped the criminal charges against a former City of Boston laborer in connection with two store robberies. The man who was arrested by the SWAT team in January lost his job because he was held in jail. The District Attorney's office stated that the man was still being investigated in the robberies. The case was heard in the Brighton District Court.

It frustrates me to read that the DA's Office is still investigating the suspect after the charges were dropped by the same office. Roberto Perez, 18 of Rockland, Massachusetts was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a sixten year old boy Saturday night. Anthonhy Scott 47 of Dorchester, Massachusetts was arrested by the Massachusetts State Police for selling marijuana at Logan Airport. Mr. Scott had worked at the shoeshine stand within Terminal C. After recieving a tip that Mr. Scott had been selling marijuana the Massachusett State Police began their undercover operation. Mr. Scott is alledged to have sold $20 worth of marijuana to an undercover trooper twice and was observed selling marijuana in the airport food court.

Mr. Scott was arraigned on three counts of distribution of a class d substance in the East Boston District Court. Mr. Scott was held on $1000 cash bail and ordered not to go the Logan Airport.

Distrubution of marijuana is still a misdemeanor criminal offense. The Massachusetts law is as follows:

According to the Cape Cod Times, both the husbnd and wife spent their first night married in a Hyannis jail. Marissa Ann Putignano-Keene married Timothy Keene Monday afternoon. After the serviced the couple celebrated by sharing a bottle of champagne. Some point in the evening the bride saw a woman that groom had a prevoius relationship with. The Massachusetts RMV will not be going ahead with the planned $5 fee they had planned to impose. The fee was to be imposed if you did business with a live person versus doing either with an automated system or online.

I understand the Commonwealth is really strapped for money but this had to be an all time low. The RMV thought it was okay to charge $5 more to talk to a live person. As if fees are not high enough already.
