According to the Massachusetts State Police press release, a field sobriety checkpoint, a.k.a. a roadblock is scheduled for Plymouth county on Friday July 18 into Saturday July 19. In order for a roadblock to comply with Massachusetts law it must be advertised by the police. In this case the notice was on the Massachusetts State Police website.
If you are stopped at roadblock you have the right to remain silent from the outset. It is your right to not answer any questions. The answers as to how many drinks you had will most likely be used against you in court. You also have the right not take any tests. Police use field sobriety tests like asking you to say the alphabet test, walk nine steps, and hold one leg up for thirty seconds. During this time the officer is scoring you on numerous factors and will then use that against you in court. At no time can your refusal to answer any questions or take any tests be used in court.
