Police Dog Finds 100 Grams of Cocaine After Traffic Stop
Early Monday morning, a Massachusetts state trooper stopped a car on Route 290 in Auburn for a traffic violation. The trooper observed the car make a dangerous lane change pulled the car over. When the trooper questioned the driver he observed an odor of marijuana coming from the car and called for a drug sniffing dog. Nanuk, the drug sniffing dog, was then brought to the car and sniffed out marijuana, and over 100 grams of cocaine hidden in the front bumper of the 2008 Dodge Avenger.
In Massachusetts the Court has ruled that it is admissible to have a dog sniff the outside of a car. If the smell of drugs triggers a response in the dog the police may then search the area.
Given the amount of drugs found the driver and passenger will be facing a long amount of state prison time.
